The smallest of the 50 states, Rhode Island was one of the original thirteen colonies. It was the first to declare independence from British rule and the last to ratify the Constitution of the United States. Located in the New England region of the United States, Rhode Island is known as the Ocean State due to several large bays and inlets in the area. It is a state with a rich cultural and architectural heritage, boasting the largest concentration of colonial homes and buildings in the country. Warwick Heritage Trail and Rhode Island Farm Heritage Trail, for example, offer fascinating educational journeys through history. This small state is a little gem with plenty to see, do and experience. With its many beaches, Rhode Island offers plenty of watersports, fishing and boat tours. There are also nature trails for hiking, biking or bird watching. Its vineyards and wineries produce a variety of wines including Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Riesling and Chardonnay.

Great Friends Meeting House - Newport
Great Friends Meeting House is a meeting house of the Religious Society of Friends built in 1699 in Newport, Rhode Island. The meeting house, which is part of the Newport Historic District, is currently open as a museum owned by the Newport Historical Society. It is the oldest surviving house of worship in Rhode Island and features wide-plank floors, plain benches, a balcony, a beam ceiling, and a shingle exterior.

Green Animals Topiary Garden - Portsmouth
The Green Animals Topiary Garden, located in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, is the oldest and most northern topiary garden in the US. The 7-acre estate overlooks the Narragansett Bay. It contains a large collection of topiaries including eighty sculptured trees. Favorites include teddy bears, a camel, a giraffe, an ostrich, an elephant and two bears made from sculptured California privet, yew, and English boxwood.
