Fort Macon State Park - Beaufort, Fort Macon State Park is a North Carolina state park in Carteret County, North Carolina, in the US. Located on Bogue Banks near Atlantic Beach, the park opened in 1936. Fort Macon State Park is the second most visited state park in North Carolina, with an annual visitation of 1.3 million, despite being the third smallest park in North Carolina with 389 acres. The Battle of Fort Macon was fought there during March and April 1862.

Portsmouth - , Portsmouth, Portsmouth was a remote fishing and shipping village that can be found on the north end of Portsmouth Island in far eastern Carteret County, North Carolina. The town was established in 1753, and abandoned in 1971. The site and buildings became part of Cape Lookout National Seashore in 1976, and are now on the National Register of Historic Places. Prior to the Civil War, ships often stopped at Portsmouth to transfer cargo to smaller vessels that could navigate the shallow waters of Pamlico Sound.

Tryon Palace Historic Site & Gardens - New Bern, Tryon Palace Historic Sites & Gardens is a modern reconstruction of the historical colonial royal governors' palace of the Province of North Carolina. It was constructed in the 1950s across the original mansion site located in the city of New Bern, North Carolina. Today it is a State Historic Site. The palace gardens are also well-renowned.
