Natchitoches itself was founded in 1714 by French Canadian Louis Antoine Juchereau de St. Denis as the first permanent European settlement in the territory later known as the Louisiana Purchase.

Magnolia Plantation (Derry, Louisiana) - , Derry, Magnolia Plantation is a former plantation in Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana. The site was declared a National Historic Landmark in 2001. Included in the Cane River Creole National Historical Park, Magnolia Plantation is also a destination on the Louisiana African American Heritage Trail.

Melrose Plantation - , Melrose, Melrose Plantation, which is also referred to as Yucca Plantation, is a National Historic Landmark in Natchitoches Parish in north central Louisiana. The Association for Preservation of Historic Natchitoches owns the plantation and provides guided tours with unlimited photographic opportunities of the main house and its outbuildings. It has one of the oldest buildings of African derivation in the US, and was the first plantation built by and for free blacks.

Northwestern Hills Golf Course - Natchitoches, The Northwestern Hills Golf Course is a 9 hole public golf course in Natchitoches County Louisiana. Built in 1980, this Natchitoches course is open all year - closed on mondays. Tee times are accepted by calling the pro shop at 318-357-3207.
