Mississippi is a southern state with humid subtropical weather. It is rich in cultural heritage where one can still see Civil War sights and landmarks, historical homes and museums. It is known for its characteristically American music such as country, blues, and gospel music. Mississippi is a combination of city and countryside appeal, riverboat gaming and porch swing laid back life. There are plenty of outdoor activities from horseback riding, camping, hiking and swimming. It is also a beautiful scenic state. One of those scenic ways is Natchez Trace Parkway with its varied landscape of farmland, rolling hills, cypress swamps and thick forests.

Dunleith - Natchez
Dunleith is a antebellum mansion in Natchez, Mississippi. The previous building, Routhland had been built by Job Routh and passed down to his daughter Mary Routh. When it was struck by lightning and burned down in 1855, her husband, General Charles G. Dahlgren rebuilt the home. It was sold for $30,000 in 1858 to Alfred Vidal Davis who renamed it Dunleith. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1974.

Eudora Welty House - Jackson
The Eudora Welty House in Jackson, Mississippi was the home of author Eudora Welty for nearly 80 years. It was built by her parents in 1925. In it she did all her writing, in an upstairs bedroom. Welty created the garden over decades. The house was first declared a Mississippi Landmark in 2001, added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002, and declared a National Historic Landmark in 2004. This was part of a raised awareness of the significance of authors and literary life in the US.
