Alabama is located in the southeastern part of the United States and is known as "the Heart of Dixie". Montgomery is the capital of Alabama and Birmingham is the most populated city.

There are several state parks to explore and historic places to visit. Among these are Historic Blakeley State Park where there is a camping ground for primitive or RV camping. Gulf State Park also has camping grounds, fishing and natural trails and beautiful white sand beaches. Chewacla State Park has several hiking and biking trails to discover. Among the historic places to visit and admire are the Allen Grove plantation in Spring Hill, Faunsdale Plantation in Faunsdale and Bermuda Hill Plantation near Prarieville.

Arlington Antebellum Home & Gardens is a former plantation house and 6 acres of landscaped gardens near downtown Birmingham, Alabama. The two-story frame structure was built between 1845-50 and features antebellum-era Greek Revival architecture. The house serves as a decorative arts museum, featuring a collection of 19th-century furniture, textiles, silver, and paintings. The garden features a restored garden room that is used for special events.

Ave Maria Grotto - Cullman


Ave Maria Grotto, in Cullman, Alabama, is a landscaped, 4-acre park in an old quarry on the grounds of St. Bernard Abbey, providing a garden setting for 125 miniature reproductions of some of the most famous religious structures of the world. It was added to the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage on February 24, 1976 and to the National Register of Historic Places on January 19, 1984.

The Barber Motorsports Park is a large multi-purpose racing facility on a 740-acre site in Birmingham, Alabama in the US, that can be found on the eastern fringes of the city, near Leeds. In July 2009 officials announced that Barber will be the site of the IRL IndyCar Series Grand Prix of Alabama beginning in the 2010 season. Barber is also the home of the North American Porsche Driving School and the Kevin Schwantz Motorcycle School.

The arena is named after Gene Bartow, the coach who largely built the school's men's basketball program from scratch over the last quarter of the 20th century. UAB initially played their games at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex Arena, but moved its games to the on-campus facility beginning with the 1988-89 season.

The Battle Friedman House is an antebellum town home located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The house was built in 1835 by Alfred Battle and his wife, Millicent Battle. The house's grounds include the only remaining documented antebellum garden in the state, the house itself is noted for its vernacular use of monumental boxed columns. The Battle family lived in the house until 1875, when the home was purchased by Bernard Friedman.
