The Great State of South Dakota
South Dakota is divided by the Missouri River in an East and West side. The East side is where most of the population lives and also where the ground is fertile and crops are grown; while the West side is used mostly for ranching.
The area known as the Black Hills which is covered by low pines is of great importance to the local American Indians for religious reasons. It is also the place where Mount Rushmore National Memorial is to be found and is a major tourist attraction.
Other places of interests are Badlands National Park with its deep gorges and ravines carved spires all weathered through millennia of wind and rain, freeze and thaw, have created a nature wonder with plenty of wildlife which includes antelopes, bison, bighorn and more.
If you have enjoyed the books of Laura Ingalls Wilder and have enjoyed the television series "Little House on the Prairie", well, De Smet, South Dakota is her home and you can visit and still see artifacts and structures having belong to her and her family.
