The Great State of New York

New York is located in the northeastern part of the United States. It's largest city is New York City also affectionately known as "The Big Apple".

As much as people are drawn to "The Big Apple" for culture and entertainment it would be a mistake to think this is all there is to New York. There is a tremendous quantity and variety of state parks to visit and a great number of activities to engage in.

Ellis Island, located half way between New York City and Jersey City, was the doorway to millions of immigrants who sought a life in the "new world". The immigrants were welcomed by the Statue of Liberty brandishing her symbol of liberty, the freedom torch and a tablet representing the law on which is written the date of the American Declaration of Independence. It is still a place visited daily by thousands of visitors.

New York has many state parks. It contains the largest park in the continental U.S., the Adirondack Park, which is also a national historic landmark and encompasses the Adirondack Mountain range. It is a great spot for hiking the different mountain peaks and is also a great destination for kayaking and canoeing along the various rivers and lakes. Several other state parks worth noting are: Chittenango Falls State Park, Lake Minnewaska State Park, and Niagara Falls State Park just to name a few. Truly New York is a haven of beautiful parks with so much to see and do.
