Kentucky is located in the east central part of the United States and is considered a southern state. It is known as the "Bluegrass State" for the fact that bluegrass grows throughout the state due to its fertile soil. It helps in the breeding of domestic animals especially thoroughbred racing horses.

Kentucky contains the longest cave system in the world: Mammoth Cave National Park. There are several cave tours offered by the park service. Some of the best known features are Frozen Niagara and Grand Avenue.

Kentucky also has a large population of turkey and deer and a large free roaming elk herd. This is also the place which is well known for thoroughbred horse racing, such as the famous Kentucky Derby, bluegrass music and good bourbon!

Another well visited place in Kentucky is the Red River Gorge, which is located in the Daniel Boone National Forest. It is a National Natural Landmark. It features an intricate canyon system which includes waterfalls, cliffs and natural bridges. It is one of the most desirable places for rock climbing.
