The Great State of Wyoming

Wyoming is in the western United States and is mostly covered by the Eastern Rocky Mountains where the Great Plains meets the Rockies. It encompasses the Grand Teton National Park (the name "Teton" came from French meaning "teat" due to its shape), which includes almost 200 miles of enjoyable trails to hike through.

Big Horn Lake which is a recreation area and extends largely into Wyoming, can be visited through the visitor center located in the town of Lovell, Wyoming. It is a great trout fishing area and if you like to hear an awesome triple echo you can do so on the north part of Lovell from the canyon rim!

Another great point of interest is the National Monument known as Devils Tower. It is a colossal projection or volcanic neck rising impressively and has been a great spot for traditional rock climbing.

If your interest is fossils then Fossil Butte National Monument is for you. In it is preserved possibly the world’s best fossils which include alligators, turtles, fish and more.

The Army established a military post here in 1858 during the Utah War until it was finally closed in 1890. A small town, Fort Bridger, Wyoming, remains near the fort and takes its name from it.

Originally founded in 1859 along the banks of the North Platte River as a trading post and toll bridge on the Oregon Trail, the post was later taken over by the Army and named Platte Bridge Station to protect emigrants and the telegraph line against raids from Lakota and Cheyenne in the ongoing wars between those nations and the United States.

Fossil Butte National Monument - Kemmerer

Fossil Butte National Monument is a unit of the National Park Service located 15 miles west of Kemmerer, Wyoming; the national monument was established on October 23, 1972. The site preserves the best paleontological record of Tertiary aquatic communities in North America and possibly the world, within the 50-million-year-old Green River lake beds. Fossils preserved, including fish, alligators, bats, turtles, dog-sized horses, insects, and many other species of plants and animals suggest that the region was a low, subtropical, freshwater basin when the sediments accumulated, over about a 2 million-year period.
