The Great State of Vermont

Vermont joined the United States as the fourteenth state, and the first outside the original Thirteen Colonies. It is the only New England state with no coastline along the Atlantic Ocean. When it joined the union, it was the first state to have abolished slavery.

Home to over 400 lakes and ponds, Vermont has much to offer in watersports, fishing, an abundance of natural beauty, historic sites, bridges and shipwrecks. Its Lake Champlain is the sixth largest body of water in the United States and contains countless shipwrecks dating back to the 1700's. More than any other state, Vermont is also known for its covered bridges, a few of which are Shoreham Covered Railroad Bridge, Scott Covered Bridge and Hammond Covered Bridge. Vermont's Green Mountains support a dense boreal forest and are part of the Appalachian Mountains.

With its significant historic sites, lovely state parks, resorts and numerous recreational activities, one can enjoy exploring this state's treasures time and again.
