Alaska is the farthest point in the northwest of the United States. It is also the largest state in size and has been nicknamed "the last frontier". Juneau is the capital of Alaska, while Anchorage is its largest city. One of the most popular ways of visiting Alaska is by cruise ship. Alaska’s coastline is known to have some of the most beautiful scenic waterways; with views of wildlife along the marine highways and stopping at charming frontier ports. It is nature at its best. Another means to see Alaska is by train, specifically the Alaska Railroad. One can admire the magnificent mountains, lakes and wildlife all from the comfort of a glass train compartment. It travels through several cities including Denali National Park with a view of Mount McKinley, the highest peak in North America. Another place of interest in Alaska is Glacier Bay National Park. Most of the park is a wilderness area and there are no roads leading to it. However, the park is accessible by air and is visited by hundreds of thousands of people each year who arrive by cruise ship. The glaciers make a magnificent show of snow and iceberg formations.
